Socrative is an app that turns any device into part of a student response system. Not sure why I haven't written about before as it has won all kinds of awards. If you have BYOD or iPad or any type of 1:1 technology, Socrative is a must use so you don't have to buy a separate response system.
"A while back I wrote a post about two great resources for math instructional videos. I enjoy exposing kids to these instructional videos because it gives them the opportunity to hear other teachers and students explain things. After much hemming and hawing I’ve found a way to easily and quickly make and integrate my own videos into my classroom. "
"ll of those iPads will eventually be discarded in some form, however, and if they’re not recycled and disposed of properly, that massive volume of electronic waste could seriously affect our planet. With that in mind, Sortable has produced a fantastic infographic putting it all in perspective."

"Lots of people have been asking about using the iPad as a way of teaching young students to write. I personally would not advocate this as the primary way of teaching youngsters the intricacies of handwriting and letter recognition but as fun supplementary activity it might provide some motivation. Here are a couple of fun apps that reinforce some of the basic writing skills taught by parents and teachers.
"When students start taking photos and video on a variety of iPads, iPods and iPhones for a collaborative project, it can be a little hairy trying to pull all of that media into one place. Last year while struggling to share photos through a variety of apps that just never seemed to work well enough, I discovered that I could use the camera connector kit to connect one iPad to another to share photos and even large video files"
"In DigiDesign club at the end of last term, ten of our Grade 6s were tasked with creating marketing videos for our school. "nfortunately for many video lovers, iOS devices have a limited number of codecs built in to the device, leaving users only able to play H.264 video, MP4, MOV, and MPEG-4. Even though the versatile VLC Player is no longer on the iPad, you still have some options. We recommend CineXPlayer, a $3.99 iPad app that lets you play Xvid and AVI file formats, complete with subtitle support."
"About a year ago I was introduced to the MeeGenius library — this is a company that is celebrating its second birthday on Thursday, April 26. A very young company! Besides accessing their large digital book library (currently over 700 titles) via a web browser, they also now have apps for both Android and the iPad."

"Yesterday after school my fourth-quarter filmmaking group made up of fourth and fifth grade students, met for the first time to start filming “The Ghost of Bethke.” Although we have been writing the script and planning the movie for the past few weeks, this was the first time we met to start filming, but this time there is a twist. This time we are filming our movie exclusively on a new iPad (the iPad 3). I was impressed with the new camera on this iPad and I wanted to see if a movie could really be shot and edited on it."
